Press Release October 7, 2013 “ Woodhams Eye Clinic comments on Dr. Oz segment selecting your LASIK surgeon”
Recently Dr. Oz, popular TV medical guru, featured a segment on the dangers of LASIK surgery. In this segment, he presented some of the possible side effects and complications of this popular elective procedure, including dry eye, double vision, glare and halos.
This program very clearly illustrates the importance of carefully researching and selecting your refractive surgeon when considering LASIK surgery and why price should not be at the top of your list of priorities. Not all surgeons are equal.
As advised by Dr. Oz, one of the most important factors in choosing a LASIK surgeon is experience and reputation. This is far more important that the number of procedures a particular doctor has performed. In fact, the number of patients turned down as candidates is probably more important as it illustrates the wisdom and judgment of the physician in knowing which patients are likely to experience complications.
The article also cited a statement by the FDA, listing clinics who have been warned by the FDA about misleading advertising and failure to provide adequate information about the associated risks of LASIK vision correction. One of these clinics is right here in Atlanta.
Research is very important when choosing any doctor, especially when it comes to your vision.
