Does Lasik weaken the cornea?
All
laser vision correction procedures that work on the cornea will "weaken" it to
at least some degree. The "trick" is to minimize any structural weakening of
the cornea to an acceptable range while still achieving full correction of the
myopia ( nearsightedness). There is a proportional relationship between how
much myopia you have and how much corneal thinning will occur in LASIK. So in
general, significant weakening of the cornea in LASIK is mostly a problem in
treating very high prescriptions, and not so much at all in cases of a lower
Rx.
