What is PreLex?
PreLex (Presbyopic Lens Exchange)
is "The removal and replacement of the natural lens of the eye with any
degree of cataract where the goal is to provide uncorrected (no glasses)
Distance, Intermediate, and Near (reading) vision."
PreLex is best suited to people
over the age of 50 who are experiencing the loss of near, reading vision from
Presbyopia, but can simultaneously correct distance vision problems that
require glasses or contacts such as nearsightedness and astigmatism.
PreLex is predominantly a
refractive surgical procedure although most patients having it done also have
at least some sign of cataract as well. It is a more invasive than LASIK
because it is intraocular surgery, but will typically last longer for the same
reason.
Here is an excellent video explanation of PreLex.
